EFFICIENCY, CREATIVITY AND ACCESSIBILITY

The information and knowledge represents vital ingredients of a healthy society of which value is stimulated by the globalization phenomena and dynamic growth of the high-level technologies. In the context of the transition to a knowledge based society, European Union aims at ensuring the frame of an intelligent, durable and inclusive development. The society based on knowledge and innovation involves the integration of the technological infrastructure with the research, development and innovation processes, as well as with the educational processes. This integration directly supports the development of the intellectual capital, which is the main resource of the modern society. Knowledge creation based on stimulating the use of intellectual capital is a key factor that contributes to the enhancement of the competitiveness, sustainable development and the degree of social integration. In order to achieve these strategic objectives, European Union identified several targets. In the field of research and innovation, the target proposed to be achieved until 2020 consists in allocating 3 % of GDP for the financial support of this domain.

The EU 2020 strategy is based on a better valorization of the economic growth potential, being focused on the following priorities: research, development and innovation, as well as the improvement of the educational process. The specific program for the research and innovation domain (Horizon 2020) aims at transforming EU into an innovation union, improving the cooperation between the business and academic environments by means of the ‘knowledge based alliances’, establishing new partnerships between universities or research institutions and the commercial companies (communities based on knowledge and innovation), as well as improving the research and innovation systems belonging both to the public and private sectors. The importance of this program is proved by the fact that a funding of about 80 billion EURO is allocated for its financial support in the period 2014-2020.

The knowledge based society may be developed only by connecting the knowledge processes with the stimulation of the creativity, research and innovation. In this frame, the intellectual capital with its innovative, relational and motivational facets represents the kernel of the knowledge based society.

The enhancement of the knowledge level, the creative competences and innovative abilities are directly linked to the educational and professional training systems that support the intellectual profile development of the individuals engaged in a society based on continuous learning. These challenges lead to major transformations at micro- and macro-economic levels, ensuring the evolution towards the knowledge based society, in which the added value and competitiveness are generated by the knowledge level and the innovative capabilities.

ABSTRACT: The present article aims to investigate the chip separation process in order to derive the chip formation characteristics during cutting of AL7075 aluminum alloy. Aluminum machining concerns the scientific community due to chip formation problems that affect tool life and product quality. Studying the cutting action contributes to understanding and addressing those problems effectively. For these purposes an experimental setup, utilizing high speed imaging system will be introduced. The proposed setup is based on a milling machine and remains unaffected by external devices that may impact to the cutting system. The chip characteristics are measured by a high speed camera placed under the cutting tool during machining. The camera is connected to a computer for recording and controlling the experimental procedure in real-time.

KEY WORDS: Chip formation, high speed machining, high speed camera, AL7075.

ABSTRACT: The manufacturing technology evolves rapidly, nowadays most of the manufacturing processes being unfolded on numerically controlled machine-tools (NCMT). In order to use properly this kind of equipment, some characteristics have to be accurately assessed. This work presents some experimental researches unfolded on NCMT in order to assess their manufacturing accuracy. The manufacturing accuracy of NCMT has a major influence upon the shape and dimensional accuracy of the manufactured parts. The results obtained within this work will be further used to build a knowledge database used for improving the manufacturing accuracy on NCMT.

ABSTRACT: The paper presents results of calibration measurements, which enable evaluation of the impact of table rotation angle on 3D quickSET (DMG) diagnostics system measurement results. The theoretical section is devoted to presenting characteristics and description of other systems in the diagnostic-calibration systems group, i.e. 3D quickSET (DMG) and AxiSet™ Check-Up (Renishaw). Each system was analysed and presented in terms of test procedure, structure and components as well as advantages and disadvantages. The practical part focuses on estimation of the value of the kinematic pair centre offset of rotary axes of the 5-axis machine tool. The object of research was a vertical machining centre diagnostic DMU 65 MonoBlock by DMG company, equipped with numerical control measurement system SIEMENS - SINUMERIC 840 SL MD. Obtained test results enabled calibration of both C rotary and A swivel axes of the machine table. The conducted tests indicate the correlation between the test angle and calibration measurement result.

ABSTRACT: An architecture that combines hardware and software components in order to setup an adaptive control system is here presented. To act as an adaptive control for cutting processes, a system has to perform some specific tasks, as measuring the instantaneous values of a certain parameter of the process, and delivering correction inputs to the process. Furthermore, it must have a specific component that allows dimensioning the correcting inputs for the process, related to the perturbations occurred, to ensure the process stabilization. The main hardware component of the solution proposed consists of a Kistler platform, and the software that gathers data from the platforms’ sensors, computes the value of the correction and delivers it to the process is LabVIEW.

ABSTRACT: In the fields of science, engineering and commercial computer, there are many problems that we cannot use existing super computer to solve. For this reason, a novel genetic algorithm is proposed to the grid resource assignment problem. The improved genetic algorithm extracts the heuristic feedback from these obtained solutions, and applies the heuristic feedback to guide the subsequent optimization process. Experimental results suggest that this approach is efficient to the resource optimization problem.

ABSTRACT: This paper presents some experimental work upon the influence of the shapes of the tools trajectories upon the accuracy of the parts processed on CNC milling machine. Nowadays CAM software packages allow the user to select from a great variety of machining strategies, both for roughing and finishing operations. Each strategy is performed using different shapes of the tool trajectories (toolpaths), but usually the user does not know how to choose between them. An integrated process of simulation, machining and measurement was unfolded, in order to obtain some information about how to choose the most appropriate toolpath for a given shape of the part.

KEY WORDS: accuracy, CNC, milling, tool, toolpaths.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this article is to present researches for optimizing the vacuum casting process, by dimensioning the feeding system. To manufacture metallic complex parts through investment casting process using wax patterns, with a good quality surface and a high dimensional accuracy it is necessary to optimize the feeding system. In this study, starting from the classic metal casting process a method to calculate the optimal dimensions of the gating system has been proposed, using mathematical relations for the gate, sprue and feeders. Thus we can say that by applying the feeding system dimensioning algorithm and by correcting the master model dimensions with the shrinkage value, we can manufacture complex metal parts through investment casting with a high precision and a good surface accuracy.

KEY WORDS: casting, wax patterns, shrinkage.
